Izellah’s new track Glow follows on from her last hit Treat You, a massive ballad which was co-written with the rising star of the American songwriting scene Tucker Murray Caploe. But Glow is a dose of serious pure pop fun, reaffirming Izellah’s standing as a singer-songwriter with a big future ahead of her. Over the past year Izellah has collaborated with some of the most in-demand music producers and writers in the world, including Andre Lindal (Maroon 5, Britney Spears, Justin Bieber, Kelly Clarkson, Nelly Furtado and Jennifer Lopez), and Michael Jay, (Eminem, Celine Dion and Kylie Minogue).
The young Queenslander has harnessed these experiences and all her hard work and produced a sophisticated and impressive new track. Beginning with a hypnotic array of sound textures and rhythmic effects, the mood of Glowis immediately apparent without giving away any surprises, and there are quite a few here.
The verse appears with the main beat, a laid back hip hop like groove and as with a lot of Izellah’s previous tunes, the verses are as melodically strong as many of the other key parts of the song. The pre-chorus provides a great conduit to the chorus, with its increased intensity, varied instrumentation and swaying melody. The chorus is sparse, establishing the melodic potency, the life-affirming lyric and, of course, Izellah’s voice, which reaches some exquisite high notes with emotional zest and passionate confidence. Following on from another cycle of this arrangement is the bridge, with its slight change in mood and emphasis, a bare piano helping the impact of Izellah’s performance which shifts to accommodate the positivity inherent in the lyric.
The track ends with the chorus and its many hooks and rich sounds. The production, as with Izellah’s previous releases is polished and slick without detracting from the authenticity of Izellah’s vocal delivery, utilising modern styles of sonic layering and tones to provide a powerful and complete musical environment. The melodic strength and the vital lyric of the song will no doubt be a reason for Glow’ssuccess and help Izellah continue along her way to worldwide acclaim.
