American country music artist Kendall Phillips has just released a new track Backyard Getaway a feel-good, rousing country-pop song that offers a lighter take on how to enjoy a budget summer without travel. Kendall’s rise to stardom began early, writing her first songs when she was only twelve.
Since then Kendall has gone to achieve several remarkable milestones including her house-hold name making appearances on American Idol and her feature in the Chicken Soup for the American Idol Soul book released in November of 2007.
A Top 5 National Finalist in the 2010 and 2011 Texaco Country Showdowns, the world’s largest country music competition, Kendall’s expressive voice is beautifully realised on Backyard Getaway. In 2007 Kendall also made a name for herself as an actress, and has appeared on various television shows on CBS & NBC. Kendall describes her sound as a mix of Dolly Parton, Keith Urban and Carrie Underwood.
Her experience as a seasoned performer is undeniable, having toured across the US opening for major acts including Justin Moore, Darius Rucker, Steel Magnolia, Lady Antebellum, Blake Shelton, and Jerrod Neimann, as well as appearing at the home of the Grand OIe Opry, The Ryman Auditorium with LeAnn Rimes and Country Music Hall Famer, Charlie McCoy. Kendall paired with Nashville producer, Austin Moorhead (Maddie and Tae, Jana Kramer, Michael Ray) for the song, bringing playful summer vibes to the track. As Kendall says about the origins of Backyard Getaway, ‘I actually wrote it back in 2017 while driving somewhere between Pennsylvania and Virginia, but now seemed like the perfect time to record,’ Phillips said.
‘My entire summer tour has been cancelled, I’m verging on broke, and a vacation is definitely nowhere in my future. This song is so 2020, it’s so me’.
