IZELLAH – If Everyday Was Christmas
There have been various approaches to the Christmas song, some breaking with tradition and utilising specific stylistic nuances to get their message of Christmas goodwill and good cheer across, while others stick closer to the kind of song which has universal appeal—Izellah’s latest single If Every Day Was Christmasis one such tune.
It’s a big song, brilliantly performed by Izellah, who seems at home here with a melody and arrangement befitting a showstopper from a musical. The song was written and produced by the esteemed music production team of Andre Lindal, who has worked with Maroon 5, Britney Spears, Justin Bieber, Kelly Clarkson, Nelly Furtado and Jennifer Lopez, and Michael Jay, whose credits include Eminem, Celine Dion and Australia’s Kylie Minogue.
As soon as those initial piano flourishes begin, one has a sense of the mood and emotion of what’s to come. The verses build into two further stages of melodic development until the hook of the song, a simple and straightforward reaffirmation of the title with the dramatic dynamism playing out right up to the very end, as if the entire song consisted of a series of melodic peaks, with Izellah’s handling of them, perfectly executed.
The lyrics use Christmas as the starting point to unite and spread optimism; not an unusual focus for a festive song, however, it’s Izellah’s strong and heartfelt interpretation which highlights the power of the song and the lyric’s essence. And to add another reason why this Christmas song might turn out to be one of your favourites this year, all Pre-Sale revenue will go to Starlight Children’s Foundation which assists seriously ill and hospitalised children in Australia.
