RACE AGAINST TIME REVIEW
Bianca Modesti ’s new single Race Against Time follows on from her last release Betrayal which attracted a lot of radio attention last year and went on to become a semi-finalist in a prestigious international songwriting competition.
This new track is a pop-rock gem, with its lyric of empowerment and emotional strength bolstered by an electrifying arrangement of guitars spearheading a big production and heart-stopping dynamics. Bianca is a consummate vocalist, whether delivering lines at full intensity or in a more understated way.
The song has a plethora of hooks which are augmented by a production that is rife with sonic punch and devil-may-care attitude. And attitude befits Bianca’s approach, able to reach those soaring high notes as easy as the more intimate lows, belted with pride and percolating potency.
The overall style is pop meets rock with little infusions of funk interspersed throughout like Pink meets Kelly Clarkson. The song’s main hook leaps up at you and never lets you go, demanding and determined, an unrelenting earworm that is sure to be the reason it makes radio playlists all over the country.
The energy is palpable and from the opening breakdown chorus to the early 90s rock riffs strewn around the vocal, the pulsing piano across the top of the verses, to the vocal, it’s delivered with sass and fire and a robust nod to the rock tropes of another time that have been harnessed and re-imagined for this era. Bianca’s vocal performance is effortless and as sweetly impassioned as it is direct and forceful.
The addition of floating layers of harmonies and other voices add another dimension to this full-throttled track. It’s replete with bluster and pop bravado yet has a life-affirming code throughout.
The track serves as a great testament to a new Australian artist whose time, no doubt, has arrived.
